Golf knitwear and casual wear has always moved between the course and the clubhouse. What materials should you expect?
Vintage golf jumpers may be made from lambswool, merino, cotton, acrylic, fleece or mixed fibres. Natural fibre does not automatically mean better, and synthetic fabric does not automatically mean lower quality. The right choice depends on how you plan to wear it: a fine wool V-neck works over a polo, while a fleece or cotton sweatshirt is often easier as an everyday layer.
How do vintage golf jumpers fit?
Older golf knitwear often has a wider body, shorter ribbed hem or fuller sleeve than a current slim jumper. Sweatshirts and fleeces can be deliberately roomy. We provide the actual chest width and length for each item and recommend comparing them with a layer you already wear.
