Vintage Golf Clothing: Size Guide

Vintage golf clothing does not follow modern sizing standards. Brands like Nike, TaylorMade, Callaway, Ping, and Greg Norman sized their Tour apparel differently in the 1990s and early 2000s. Understanding these differences will help you find something that fits properly the first time!

Every Item is Individually Measured

We do not rely on the label alone. Every item we sell includes actual dimensions taken flat: chest and length. You will find these in each product listing. Use them.

How to Measure Yourself

Don't measure yourself. Measure something that you know fits well or how you'd want the item to fit.

  • Chest: Lay it flat, and measure from armpit to armpit. This should be the widest part of the top. For a relaxed fit, add 2 inches. For a fitted look, use your exact measurement.
  • Length: Measure from the highest point of the shoulder at the back of the neck down to the hem.

Sizing by Brand:

Nike Golf (1990s to 2000s):

  • The earlier the piece the bigger it comes up.
  • Half to a full size in the chest bigger and shorter in body length than contemporary Nike. A vintage Medium typically measures 40-42 inches chest and around 26 to 28 inches length. Size down if you prefer.
  • Tiger Woods Collection pieces from 1997 to 2002 run closer to modern sizing.

Greg Norman (1990s to 2000s):

  • Again the earlier the bigger it comes up.
  • Some of the early Shark Collection is a full size larger in the chest.
  • A vintage Large sits comfortably at 44 to 46 inches chest.

Adidas Golf (1990s to 2000s):

  • Similar to modern sizing in gilet and windbreakers.
  • Polo shirts from this period have a classic, moderately fitted cut through the body.

TaylorMade (1990s to 2000s):

  • Runs generous. 1Quarter-zips and outerwear are often half a size larger than labelled.
  • A TaylorMade Medium will frequently measure at 42-44 inches chest, comparable to a Large from most contemporary brands. 

Ping Golf (1990s to 2000s):

  • Somewhere between true-to-size and generous.
  • Polo shirts and outerwear have a clean, traditional cut with a boxy shape through the torso. 

Titleist (1990s to 2000s): 

  • True to size throughout. Polo shirts have a classic fit, neither slim nor boxy.
  • Outerwear cuts slightly larger to allow for layering. A Titleist Large fits a 42 to 44 inch chest comfortably, if not bigger.

Callaway Golf (1990s to 2000s):

  • Runs generous. A vintage Medium is often closer to a contemporary Large in chest width.
  • Polo shirts have an easy, relaxed cut through the shoulders. Outerwear is true to size or marginally larger.

General Size Chart (Approximate)

  • Small: Chest 36 to 38 inches | Contemporary equivalent: XS to S
  • Medium: Chest 38 to 40 inches | Contemporary equivalent: S to M
  • Large: Chest 42 to 44 inches | Contemporary equivalent: M to L
  • XL: Chest 44 to 47 inches | Contemporary equivalent: L to XL
  • XXL: Chest 47 to 50 inches | Contemporary equivalent: XL to XXL

Even if you want to size up intentionally may be able to stick with their modern size and the vintage pieces will come up in that boxier oversized shape your looking for.
